The good stuff

The notification system is actually kind of nice. When I get a message, it pops up in the corner and lets me reply right there - no clicking through to a whole app or browser window. I’ve sent dozens of quick “hey, got your text” replies from the notification itself. That saved me time more than once. The interface is clean too. Just contacts, chat history, and a little inbox-like layout. Feels fast even though it’s not doing much behind the scenes. I also appreciate that it’s free and open source - no ads, no tracking, nothing sketchy. If you're into that kind of thing, it's a solid choice.

The not-so-good

And yeah, the RAM thing is real. I’ve had it running in the background while working on a big project, and suddenly my machine started breathing heavy. One day I checked Activity Monitor and Goofy was eating 500 MB of RAM with zero chats open. Not great if you’re on an older Mac or one with limited memory. It doesn’t crash or anything, but it definitely feels like it’s hogging space unnecessarily. Also, no voice or video calls - if you need those, this isn’t the tool. And since the developer is unknown, there’s no real support or updates to track. You’re kind of on your own after download.

Bottom line

If you want a simple way to keep up with Facebook Messenger on your Mac without opening a browser tab, Goofy for Mac - Download for Mac is worth trying. It’s free, it works, and the quick reply feature is genuinely useful. But if you’re on a low-memory machine or need full Messenger features, skip it. Otherwise, give it a shot - it’s harmless, and at least you know exactly what you’re getting.
